Clos Bibliothèque — Excellence in Harmony with a Magnificent Terroir
North-East Bulgaria · Organic & Biodynamic Viticulture
Clos Bibliothèque is no ordinary winery — it is a personal project of the winemaker - Vladislav and also it's a place where history, terroir and perfection converge. The vineyard is located near the village of Nevsha in north-eastern Bulgaria, on the site of a 10th-century monastery recognised by UNESCO as one of the earliest centres of Cyrillic literature. Even Umberto Eco, author of The Name of the Rose, was captivated by its spirit.
Vineyards and work
The vineyard grows on exceptional limestone soil scattered with millions-of-years-old marine fossils — a terroir that forces the vines to sink their roots deep into the ground, imparting a distinctive and unmistakable minerality to the wines. The east-facing exposure and excellent drainage on the hillside ensure optimal ripening throughout the growing season.
Viticulture is fully organic, complemented by biodynamic practices — without herbicides, insecticides or systemic fungicides. 'Massale selection' has be applied just like in Burgundy. Planting density reaches up to 9,200 vines per hectare, unique in Bulgaria, resulting in an exceptional concentration of aromas and flavours. The most labour-intensive and quality-driven training systems are applied: Simonit & Sirch for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and Gobelet for Syrah and Dimyat.
The wines are aged for 18 months in Burgundy barrels and ceramic amphorae — a combination of classical craftsmanship and contemporary refinement.
