Mavrud is one of Bulgaria’s most beloved and characterful grape varieties. Thriving in the sunny Thracian Valley, it benefits from the dry autumns that ensure perfectly ripened grapes. Mavrud wines range from smooth and approachable to powerful, oak-aged expressions with great ageing potential.

Other native varieties or crossing also shine: Rubin and Melnik among the reds, Dimyat, Misket, and Tamianka among the whites.

Dedicated to one of the oldest and most distinctive Bulgarian grape varieties, the International Mavrud Day aims to provoke deeper interest in and appreciation for Bulgarian viticulture and winemaking. It strives to highlight the remarkable harmony between tradition and innovation that drives modern Bulgarian winemaking, as well as showcase the quality and stylistic diversity of Bulgarian wines. Our goal is to establish the day as one of the most significant celebrations of Bulgarian wine, to further boost the country's wine image, to provide information and guide consumers through the complexities of Bulgarian wine.
