Many ancient authors have praised the Thracian wine, and the recipe has been passed from father to son for generations... This is what I was inspired by!”
The region and the Vineyards:
The village of Elenovo (Sliven District) is located in Southeast Bulgaria, about 15 km
from Nova Zagora and 40 km from Sliven. The village of Elenovo, initially called Karadja Muratli, is situated at the foot of Saint Ilia heights, name that has been used for one of the wine brands.
It is surrounded by several lakes, two nature parks, and has excellent conditions for the development of rural and hunting tourism.
Nearby is Karanovska mound, where evidence of civilization appeared dating back to the 7th century BC. Another ancient necropolis from the first century BC has been found on Danyova Vodenitsa site. Northwest of Elenovo is a funeral mound, part of the mound necropolis region Yurneya, with findings from late Iron Age, Roman Age and Medieval Bulgaria. There are remnants of an ancient settlement, dated to the Early Bronze Age (4000 BC). Researchers claim the mound of great importance among the ancient settlements in Europe, defining it as "The Bulgarian Stonehenge”.
The terroir of Elenovo is unique for Bulgaria and equally suitable for the cultivation of red and white wines. It provides ideal conditions for the development of wine tourism.
The flora and fauna are diverse with pheasant, rabbit, carp and other species located there.
The story of Edoardo Miroglio
Edoardo Miroglio Wine Cellar was established in 2002 in Elenovo village, about 15 km from the city of Nova Zagora, Bulgaria.
Grape-growing and winemaking have been traditional for the region ever since Thracian times. Many ancient authors have praised the Thracian wine, and the recipe has been passed on from father to son for generations. In 2002 Edoardo Miroglio, a well-known Italian producer of textile products and wines, discovered in the Thracian region of Bulgaria the perfect soil and climatic conditions for production of quality wines. After numbers of analyses and soil tests, he found that the terroir of Elenovo is unique to Bulgaria and is equally good for cultivating both red and white grape varieties.
As a result of this, he proceeded to set up what is now one of the best, modern wineries in the region.
Today, on this extremely suitable soil of Elenovo, over 140 hectares of vineyards of elite French and Bulgarian grape varieties have been planted. From which 37 hectares have been certified in 2013 as organic growing vineyards.
The winery is specialized in the production of quality white, rosé and red wines, as well as sparkling wine produces according to the Traditional Method – white and rosé.
The major brands produced by the winery are: ELENOVO (Reserves), HERITAGE and EDOARDO MIROGLIO (premium brands), SOLI and SANT’ILIA (commercial brands).
