The "Merul" series are quintessential representatives of the "New World" style that has been gaining prominence in winemaking in recent years. The maceration and fermentation of the grapes take place in stainless steel tanks under carefully controlled temperatures. The wines in this series are a pure expression of the grape—well-balanced, aromatic, and fruity.
The grapes are grown in the estate vineyards of Rumelia Winery in Panagyurishte, a renowned Mavrud region within the PGI Thracian Valley.
Our Tasting Notes: This Merul Mavrud boasts an intense, deep purple-red color. It offers enticing aromas of ripe red and dark fruits, with notes of dark cherry, plum, nutmeg, and spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium body and acidity, complemented by ripe, velvety tannins. The finish is spicy, with hints of dried fruit. This is a typical, characterful wine made from the Mavrud grape, whose pure taste is attributed to aging without any contact with wood.
Best paired with: Stews, red meat, grilled meat, lamb leg, game, casseroles, pizza, or pasta with red sauce.
