• Merul Mavrud Reserve 2018

Merul Mavrud Reserve is a noble wine crafted from the renowned indigenous Bulgarian grape variety, Mavrud. The wine has been aged for 18 months in small, new, and older barrels (225 liters) made of French and American oak. This is done with the intention of softening the temperament of the grape, as typical of Mavrud wines: robust, wild, and full of character. All grapes for the "Merul Reserve" wines are hand-harvested from our own vineyards in the village of Smilets, near Panagyurishte in the Thracian Valley. The vines are 16 years old. The soils are a blend of cinnamon-like forest soils and clay, with the clay and active carbonates contributing to the synthesis and accumulation of pigments, which is beneficial for the formation of the grapes' aromatic potential. In short, this is an excellent terroir for cultivating the ancient Bulgarian grape variety Mavrud

Our tasting notes:

Wine with dark ruby-red colour. Remarkable, multilevel aroma with nuances of sweet fruit like ripen cherry and plums, smoke, black pepper, dry spices and dark chocolate. Full body wine, good structure with a lot of velvety tannins and high acidity. Intensive and long-lasting remaining of dark fruit, spicy and toasty final.
We advise you to open the bottle at least one hour before enjoying it.

Best with:

stews, red meats, grilled meats, lamb and game, grilled vegetables, moussaka
