• Bratanov 3-Blend Red 2019

Bratanov’s answer and vision of the “Bordeaux blend”, hailing from the Sakar region in Bulgaria. A spontaneous wild fermentation of this well-balanced blend composed of 50% Merlot (mostly aged in stainless steel tanks), 40% Cabernet Franc, and, as the “salt and pepper,” 10% of the local Rubin grape. The Cabernet Franc and Rubin varieties were aged for 30 months in various oak barrels, while the Merlot matured exclusively in stainless steel. After blending, the wine spent an additional 16 months in the bottle. An example of meticulous craftsmanship by oenologist Maria Stoeva, who carefully selected the right barrels and proportions to achieve this remarkable blend.

Why "3-Blend" ?

3 founders - Stoicho Bratanov and his two sons Daniel and Hristo

3 wine makers - Maria Stoeva (Bulgaria), J. Weaver (New Zealand), R. Lablanz (Hungary)

3 varieties - two international and one local, from our own vines in South Sakar

30 months - aging in barrels of different origin and content as well as in neutral barrels / stainless steel tanks

Our tasting notes:

Wine with deep ruby colour and some garnet nuance. Nose is pronounced and at the same time delicate yet developing. Flavours are of ripe cherry, plums, dry red fruits, red bell pepper, nutmeg, toast, coffee and touches of earth (forest floor) and leather. In the mouth is dry, medium acidity and medium body. Intensive flavours to find back, ripe and dried fruits, black peppers, nutmeg, smokey toasty notes and leather. Juicy with very good structure and lots of ripe tannins with very smooth long aftertaste. Ready to drink up to 5 years more.
